Tips To Ward Off Winter Allergies

You might be one among the millions who is battling winter allergies and asthma. While winter months are fun and cheerful, some need to take extra care from the downsides which the season brings along with it. Condition worsens with unhealthy food, poor sleep habits and more alcohol in this season.  


During cold months these allergens are found causing discomfort to maximum people. With the onset of winter, it is common to see people coughing and sneezing. However, one can take protective measures to reduce allergic reactions as well as recognize the triggering factor that leads to such conditions.


Let us have a look at the preventive measures for keeping these symptoms away:


Smart food intake: Allergic reactions to certain foods might cold symptoms and asthma. People are usually sensitive to yogurt, milk, ice cream, cucumber, cheese, eggs and banana. Consume seasonal fruits, green tea that are high in antioxidants thereby helps to reduce seasonal symptoms. Avoid foods in high sugar as it helps you to be more resistant to allergens.  


Drink water in plenty: Swollen nasal passage is one of the major reactions of allergy. Fever, sore throat and headaches are common. Take rest and consume more of water.


Omega-3: You can consider Omega-3 fatty acids, which has natural anti-inflammatory agents. It includes pumpkin seeds, soyabean, salmon and walnuts.


Practice hygiene: Do wash your hands after using toilet , before and after eating food. Use hand sanitizers if water is not available. Stay away from people who are sick as bacteria is bound to spread quickly from them. Keep the home free of dust as much as possible. Wash hands after playing or touching even your family pet. Wash pillow covers and bed sheets weekly in warm water. Put your woolens and blankets once a week in the sun.


Use exhaust fan more often: While taking showers or cooking in kitchen do switch on exhaust fan to get rid off excess odor and humidity. Clean the filters of your air-conditioning or heater units.


Maintain humidity level indoors: Keep the indoor humidity level between 30–40 % with a humidifier or dehumidifier in order to prevent the growth of mites and mold.  


Use a mask while dusting or gardening: Wear a mask when you are dusting or gardening. Pollen counts are maximum from 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. so such heavy work can be done accordingly.
